growing up and whatnot
I’ve got a confession to make: I feel like I missed out on alot of growing up in college. Sure I was overloaded with extracurriculars, worked 3 jobs, graduated magna cum laude, and had a social life.. but there is so much of ‘real life’ stuff that I missed out on because I lived in a dorm (errr..residence hall).
For instance:
- I have NO idea how to put together a bedframe. none whatsoever. Are you supposed to connect the frame in the middle? Do you need extra screws? How do you know when it’s stable?
- I’ve never had to shop for a mattress before.
- I don’t own duct tape
- setting up the internet router, what’s that?
- I’ve never bought used furniture off of craigslist
- I’ve never had to ask boys to help me move furniture (cause I’ve never owned any)
- exactly how many power strips does a 22 year old girl need?
- how do you put holes in the wall without chipping off the paint?
this ‘growing up’ thing is kind of intense
clearly I’m still getting used to it

Every week that passes brings me closer and closer to real adult decisions. I have to answer questions like:
- Am I staying in DC for the semester/year?
- Am I going to law school?
- Where will I live come mid August?
- Where will I work once my job hours are cut to 20/week?
- How does one dress for cold weather?
- How does one deal with precipitation (like snow)?
- How long until the State Department calls me for the FSO job?
- How will I meet new people?
- Why does everyone in DC seem to be in a relationship?
anyway, this is what’s causing me mild anxiety as I try out this whole “being an adult” and “living out my dreams” and “having a real job” thing.
You know, since the Times thinks we millenials are just a group of unemployed hipsters. let the record reflect that I’m doing things with my life.. (via adespain, furk)

Today I had my Foreign Service Oral Interview
AND I PASSED
yeah, it’s crazy
I was given my conditional offer of employment and everything. With luck, in a few months I’ll be a real deal Foreign Service Officer (in the management cone).
Dreams… guess they’re coming true, huh?!?!
