Something you may or may not have known about me: I am a huge fan of DRUM CORPS. (marching music’s major league? professional marching band? anyone heard of it?)
I marched with the Arizona Academy in 2006 and it has been the single most important/lifechanging activity I’ve ever engaged in. Since then have only seen the corps perform twice - at Invesco Field in Denver in 07 and at Southwest Corps Connection in 09. This summer I’ll be in DC and hence assumed my dreams of seeing the Academy perform were totally and completely shot. However, after some pokin around on dci.org, it appears as though:
THERE IS A DRUM CORPS SHOW in Fairfax, VA THIS SUMMER!!! WHAT!? OMG!?
SO CLOSE TO DC! I can even get to George Mason using 100% public transit!

So Excited for My Sublet In DC This Summer
- it’s in the district - as opposed to VA
- Close to Whole Foods aaaand Giant
- Only a 25 minute commute to work
- 1/2 mile away from Maryland
- Don’t have to wear flip flops in the shower
- Don’t have to be on duty
- I’m over the age of 21 - unlike the last time I lived in DC
- 3 blocks to the Metro
- Will have a large kitchen (that I don’t have to share with 200 residents)
- close to 3 dance studios
- Across the street from Thai food
- I’m SO EXCITED!

I have self-proclaimed this week: dress week. My sunburn is fading and it’s f-n hot outside.
Today - cotton blue dress from F21.
So I’m traveling around Europe for about a week and a half after my LSAT this June and need want a backpack. I think with something like this, I can use the bag later for camping trips with friends AND travel nicely this summer.
Thoughts? Suggestions?

there are some songs that will always be on your life’s soundtrack. the songs that you just need to listen to when you’e going through certain situations.
sometimes I miss drum corps… running around a football field in a bikini top and rolled-up soffee shorts… and being 115 lbs with a dangerously high risk of skin cancer… and I miss doing pilates/yoga/ballet exercise for at least a third of my day. When things were fun, and your only thought processes are about the next 24-count of drill.. and when dinner break is. You use up one bottle of sunscreen every 2 weeks, and you perform in front of thousands of people and go on national tours.
That’s what this song means to me. Drum Corps. the World Championship ring. learning how strong my body is, and what it means to be 1/135th responsible for every score the group gets. it was the time of my life, and changed me more than I ever expected.
