Our hotel in Canakkale’s private beach on the Dardanelles River. It’s hard to study mythology with such beautiful landscape and water around!
when I said that most of my friends were traveling in Europe right now I wasn’t kidding. Here’s my bff Katie blogging from Turkey.

photo As a kid in Russia, I used to eat red currants by picking them straight off the bush in our Dacha (summerhome). Imagine my delight when I saw them sold in street markets in Frankfurt! win!
also - only 2 euro for 1/2 a kilo!

Belfast Fashion: an observation

things I noticed include, but are not limited to:

  • black opaque tights under denim cutoffs
  • flats with said tights
  • layering with short jackets
  • platform heels
  • short shorts
  • short dresses
  • short skirts (seeing a trend? … there is alot of bare leg shown)
  • fedoras on guys
  • Abercrombie and Fitch (who knew?)
  • skinny jeans
  • thick black framed glasses
  • outrageously-high heels
  • track/warm up pants on guys

things I didn’t see much of (of just didn’t notice)

  • throwback sneakers
  • baseball hats
  • wedges
  • strappy/summery gladiator sandals
  • dresses that hit below the knee
  • frayed denim cutoffs worn on their own
  • sweatshirts
  • school pride apparel
  • girls wearing jeans out to the bars/clubs

Belfast: a Travel Note

I’ve been in Belfast, Northern Ireland for about 56 hours now and it’s definitely different than what I had expecting. With schoot out, this generally-busy college town is rather similar to Tucson in June… kinna. Here are some adjectives to describe it

  • green
  • COLD
  • busy
  • windy
  • full of public transit (yay!)
  • lacking cute collegiate apparel
  • cold
  • low drinking age (18)
  • walkable
  • cloudy
  • cold

clearly this whole “northern ireland being cold thing” is frightening me as an Arizonan :-)

other than that it’s super fun, I’m here with my beau, and I’m learning all about the Troubles and general history/politics of the area. The accents are pretty awesome and buying things in British Pounds makes them seem marginally cheaper.

Paris tomorrow!
